Black mold can cause your family a lot of health problems if they are not removed promptly. Black mold usually grow in areas that are subject to moisture such as carpet, HVAC duct, wallpaper, bathroom wall, wood panel and ceiling. Before you embark on the cleaning job, make sure you wear a respirator to prevent breathing in the spores. You should also wear something to cover up your hand and legs so that you won’t get rashes when being exposed to the mold growth. When you finish cleaning it, make sure you put the tools that are used in cleaning in a heavy duty garbage bag so that the mold spores won’t fly around.

The most common way to remove black mold is to use cleaning products like borax. The chemical from borax will kill the spores to prevent regrowth of the black mold. Borax is suitable for use in cleaning black mold growth on surfaces that are non porous such as tile and glass. You must first mix in the borax with water before putting some on your scrub brush to scrub away the black mold. After scrubbing away the black mold, make sure you use a dry cloth to wipe the surface.

If you don’t have borax, you can use your laundry detergent to clean the black mold. If there is a regrowth of the black mold, you can spray some ammonia over the area to kill it. You should wait for at least 2 hours before wiping away the ammonia. Bleach can also be used to kill mold but bleach can release a poisonous smell. Therefore, if you want to use bleach, make sure you open the windows so that the smell won’t stay in the room for a long time. The bleach should remain on the moldy area for at least 1 hour before wiping it away. Bleach is suitable for use in cleaning the visible mold if it will not cause discoloration to the material.

Hydrogen peroxide can be used to remove black mold on all surfaces. When buying a hydrogen peroxide cleaner, make sure it contains at least 3% of hydrogen peroxide. The hydrogen peroxide should remain on the surface for at least 20 minutes. A non toxic method of removing black mold is to use tea tree oil. Tea tree oil is well known for its usage in killing all kinds of bacteria including black mold growth. You must mix in 2 teaspoons of tea tree oil into 2 cups of water into a bottle spray. After that, you must spray the tea tree oil solution onto the moldy area. There is no need to wipe the tea tree oil from the area as leaving it there will be able to effectively prevent the mold growth.
